This necklace has a clasp at the back - but I think longer chains could be made without the clasp!

These are the beginning of a series of drawings I've been working on lately.

By trying not to think about anything and just putting pen to paper I've developed a collection of what I'm calling "Brain Burps"

They're not obviously not comics...

But at least I'm drawing again!

Self - Ego

I had a sudden compulsion to attempt drawing myself the way I actually look and not stylising myself as I always do in my comics! I think I managed to capture my hair in these drawings quite well - but everything else is still a work in progress I think!

As you can see my hair is not as stylish as I depict it normally - and I am not as cute!

The Fender - The Process

Preliminary sketches of details on the guitar.

The first step: Sketches onto the guitar body with fine liner - this step was kind of like working on a white board as the fine liner could be easily wiped off if I stuffed it up!

The first layer of paint was put on directly over pen - in this photo you can still see the fine liner.

The finished product - once the first layer of paint had been allowed to try completely, the fine liner was wiped off with a damp cloth. A few finishing touches, and my signature were added and it was ready to go!

Thankfully Sue liked it!

I am now without a camera as well as having a distinct lack of scanner - so I wont be able to post anything for about 2 weeks.

What I have here is a doll that I made for a friends 40th Birthday!

Both the doll and the fishing rod were hand made and stood approximately 15cm.

I think this comic is a little boring - but I couldn't put it what I'd bought for Viv in case she reads this while she's away! I don't want to spoil the surprise! We also bought Honey a present that day too... a new jacket!

Oh my God! TV - it gets me every time! The flashy colours the moving pictures... I tell myself to look away but I can't! I don't even really "watch" it - just stare at it!

This last comic doesn't really show you the actual craziness Anya was having that night! It's like she was really on something! She had more energy then should be naturally possible and was talking at a million miles per hour! I wanted to try to show the way she couldn't stay still and couldn't keep quiet - but I failed miserably on both counts! That said I do like the way the page turned out in the end!

After modelling for the life drawing class, I decided to go and actually do some drawing myself.

The following week Viv, Adie and myself all went to exercise our powers of perception.

In the two hour class this is all I could come up with!

By the time I completed this page, I was no longer pissed off at everything but was starving and I still had a distinct lack of inspiration, motivation, sketch books and money!

So... now it's starting to look like a have some kind of Chris Downes obsession - but if you've seen his work you'd understand why his comics stick in my head - and why I hold him in such high esteem... It's an "I wish I could draw like Chris Downes" obsession!

As you may have noticed - I have not got an image for everyday! This is because I was going insane! I realised that having a certain quality of work everyday, meant that I missed out on a certain quality of life! I also came to the conclusion that some days just aren't exciting enough to make a comic out of them!

So whilst I am still drawing everyday - I am not trying to complete a comic everyday!

I'm hoping that by pacing things a little better I will be able to produce better comics in the long run - without the pressure of having to cram it all in in one day!

My 3 year old niece came home from day care with a drawing she'd done in orange texta, and I collaborated with her to turn it into a portrait of me.

Perhaps it's an ego thing to see images of yourself in everything!?

The Travels

OK... So... I know I promised to blog before this - but actually it's really hard to find reception for either your phone or your internet when you're driving/camping from Victoria to Western Australia!

I'm now in Albany on the South coast of W.A. and (obviously) am able to get online!

I have, however, been drawing every day - I do have drawings fro the days between the last one posted and today - but haven't got them digitalised yet!

I apologise again for the poor quality of the images! After being in the car - and drawing on my lap fro so long- the sketch books have developed quite a curl to the pages - I couldn't figure out how to remedy this in the editing program I am using at the moment! Hopefully the next few will be scanned properly!

All of the drawings are true events - but the best is yet to come...

The Plan

OK folks...

Here it is... I'm laying it all down plan youse!

My partner, our beagle and myself are about to embark on a driving trip from Victoria to Western Australia. So far we have moved out of our house in Ballarat, spent a week or so with my family in Melbourne, and are currently staying with my partner's (Viv) parents in Warracknabeal. Tomorrow the real travels begin, as we leave the comfort zone's and head into the wild unknowns!

For me this is all very exciting, as I've seen very little of what lies between Victoria and Western Australia - actually I've seen nothing of what lies between Victoria and Western Australia!

But the thing the concerns you loving folk the most is the fact that I plan to be a much more conscientious blogger!

THE PLAN is to attempt to do a drawing every day - and to blog at least once a week! I will not specify a day of the week as yet - but I think that in the future i will endeavour to blog on the same day every week!

YOUR MISSION (if you choose to accept it) is to make sure I don't slack off!

I will use this space to apologise for the possibly poor quality of imagery from here on in - as I will be working from digital photographs of the original work!

But I AM determined to be a better blogger!

I suppose there is nothing else to say... so in the words of the Master Horrocks I will...

Being such a smart and well educated girl, I cleverly put my right hand on the hot plate at home last Saturday and gave myself some nice blisters! It's all straped up now and on the mend - but its still difficult to hold a pen - the following are a bunch of drawings I've been doing with my left hand just to stop myself from going insane!

Here you can see the second page of what will be in one of the upcoming issues of Cheapskate - focusing on the recent bush fires that had the majority of Victoria on edge - here at home on our bush block we had some of the fires within maybe 8-10 Ks of our property! Luckily winds were always blowing them in the opposite direction!

This piece is based on a true story of a person who decided he was going to flick lit cigarette butts into long dry grass "just to see what would happen". If all goes to plan this will be within Cheapskate Vol XII or XIII! Keep an eye out or contact me for copies!
